Classical Mythology Telecourse Lectures
COVRSE OBJECTIVES:
This course is designed as an introduction to the deities, heroic figures, and other personages of Greco-Roman mythology and their representation in the literature of the time. Chief objectives are:
- Understanding the main Greco-Roman myths representing how the world works and the human race's place in the cosmos.
- Understanding how myth develops in response to social factors (such as marriage customs and political institutions), and how social factors are influenced by myth.
- Using this basic knowledge of Greco-Roman mythology as an instrument toward better understanding our modern assumptions about our place in society and in the cosmos.
TESTING AND GRADING:
The student's work in the course will be evaluated as follows: Average of 4 Hour Exams: 100%. Hour Exams will consist of objective (identification, short answer, matching) and essay (thesis statement, proof, conclusion) questions. These will be largely, but not completely, non-comprehensive. Extra credit will not be given under any circumstances. Final grades will be assigned on the following basis: 90-100%= A; 80-89%= B; 70-79%= C; 60-69%= D; 59%-below= F. Students with questions about the evaluation of their work should consult the instructor immediately. Examination scores will not be given out to students via e-mail or telephone, but only in person.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY:
All members of the University community share the responsibility and authority to challenge and make known acts of apparent academic dishonesty.
