COVRSE OBJECTIVES:

This course is designed as a general introduction to the deities, heroic figures, and other personages of Greco-Roman mythology and their representation in the literature of the time. Classical Myth and its origins will be examined along with its social and religious significance in its context. Through discussion and written assignments, students will further develop their ability to communicate their learning.

TESTING AND GRADING:

The student's work in the course will be determined as follows: Average of 4 Hour Exams: 67%; Average of 3 paperettes: 33%. Hour Exams will consist of objective (identification, short answer, matching) and essay (thesis statement, proof, conclusion) questions. These will be largely, but not completely, non-comprehensive. Paperettes will be 2-3 pp. each. Further information on written assignments will be contained on separate handouts later in the semester. No extra credit work will be assigned or accepted. Since discussion is essential to the success of the course, Class Participation is mandatory. This category includes observations, questions, sidetracks, complaints, tangents, polite arguments with classmates (or with the instructor), and any other verbal communication that contributes to class discussion.  Letter grades will be assigned as follows:90-100%= A; 80-89%= B; 70-79%= C; 60-69%= D; 59%-below= F.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY:

All members of the University community share the responsibility and authority to challenge and make known acts of apparent academic dishonesty. Any student detected participating in any form of academic dishonesty in this course will be subject to sanctions as described in the Student Academic Integrity Policies and Procedures, also available at the Reserves Desk in Meyer Library, and in abbreviated form in the Missouri State Undergraduate Catalog). It is your responsibility to read and fully understand Missouri State's Student Academic Integrity Policies and Procedures.
